FAQs
How many people come to Geekdom House Live?
There is a range based on the popularity of the show in question. We see anywhere from 5-50 people on any given night.
I am an Atheist/Agnostic/Buddhist/Muslim/etc.. would my views be welcome or is this a thing just for Christians?
We believe this is for anyone who loves our geek/fan culture and these artistic expressions that come out of them. There’s no expectation that anyone subscribes to the same set of beliefs – but it’s not uncommon for all of us to discuss the topics of these shows to come to some sort of common communal good that we can all agree on.
What makes a good show for watching at Geekdom House Live?
There are several criteria that help us determine which shows make for good discussion pieces and which shows do not.
- Content – we ask questions like: Will this episode actually garner a positive and engaging conversation? Are there things in this episode that would be unnecessarily distracting from the conversation?
- Stand-Alone – many shows these days are ‘serial’ in format so picking an episode halfway through Season 3 may require an audience to be well versed in all the previous episodes to fully grasp the gravity of the discussion. While we do provide ‘primers’ for new viewers sometimes the backstory is far too much to try and explain.
- Availability – episodes of shows are not always freely available and we want to honour creators and their creations. We don’t pirate stuff.
- Marketability – I will wholeheartedly agree that the obscure 80s Japanese anime that you’ve mentioned is likely quite good and would lend itself well to an incredible discussion, we have to be honest about how many people are actually going to show up to do the discussion.
